Front-loaded interest- debt confirmation

We have reinstated and expanded this message in response to a number of recent queries. We have been made aware that some balances provided by creditors at the debt confirmation stage have included ‘frontloaded’ interest. The DAS Regulations only permit interest that is actually owed at the date of application to be included in the DPP. You should, therefore, ask the creditor to provide a calculation, or early redemption statement, which details the amount payable at the point of application, excluding future interest. If the other debt confirmations are due to expire, you may wish to submit the new case, with a note explaining that you will complete a variation application to amend this balance if the case is approved. Similarly, if you are satisfied that the balance provided by the creditor does not include future interest, you should note the case accordingly. Creditors: please ensure the balance you provide does not include any future or frontloaded interest.

For the attention of money advisers

When creating a case on eDEN, please ensure that you enter the client’s email address entirely in lowercase – there should be no capital letters at all. This will assist the client in setting up their ScotAccount log-in for eDEN.

Discretionary condition variations

A reminder for money advisers. When you are creating a discretionary condition variation, please ensure that you upload a copy of the client’s most recent financial statement (income and expenditure). This should be added as a document. Information on how to do this can be found on page 17 of the Guidance on Creating and Submitting a Variation Application as a Money Adviser, which is available in the ‘Help’ section on eDEN. If this document is not added, the variation application is likely to be withdrawn.
